Warranty gaps trigger national product registration push

Nearly half of South African water heater owners miss out on full warranty benefits because they don’t register their products.

Internal audits reveal that 45% of customers claim on warranties for water heaters without registering the product or providing installation proof. This trend delays servicing, increases administrative overhead, and leaves customers frustrated.

Findings by the plumbing industry highlight inconsistent compliance with post-installation protocols; especially around warranty activation and product traceability. Kwikot has launched a national Product Registration Campaign to boost compliance, improve support and reward installation professionals.

Smart after-sales starts at installation

“It’s no longer enough to deliver a great product – customers expect seamless support too,” says Kwikot MD Murray Crow. “Proper registration ensures we can verify ownership, improve turnaround times, and offer better service. It also enables us to engage directly with our end users—something the industry has traditionally lacked.”

Kwikot’s ‘Register & Win’ campaign offers a digital registration portal and R300,000 in prizes to encourage compliance.

Campaign highlights:
• First 300 valid registrations get a R500 voucher (one per person).
• All registrants enter a draw for a R1,500 voucher.

Why does this matter to the trade

According to SANS 10254 standards; fixed electric storage water heaters must be installed according to clearly defined safety and registration protocols. Yet, the plumbing industry notes that only 52% of registered plumbers consistently follow post-installation documentation practices, including warranty activation.
