Sephaku and Raubex partner on road project

The current N4 project from Witbank to Middleburg was awarded to Raubex Construction, an existing customer of Sephaku Cement, and Raubex Construction have chosen to use SepRoad for this project. SepRoad is perfect for this project due to the several benefits:

According to site manager, Jason Katz, the N4 project runs from November 2019 to 18 March 2022. It includes the rehabilitation of the Maputo Development Corridor (MDC) – section 3 (N4-3 and N4-4), which spans over the eMalahleni and Steve Tshwete local municipalities in the Nkangala district. Raubex Construction is the appointed contractor with various local and specialised sub-contractors working on some parts of the project.  

The length of the project stretches 18km and approximately 1700 tons of SepRoad will be used. The construction is necessitated by old age of that section of the road. Parts of the existing concrete pavement has reached its lifespan and needs to be rehabilitated. The existing sub-base needs to be re-stabilised and there are three climbing lanes being constructed to assist with traffic congestion too.  

This project allows for approximately 350 employees on the project of which 80 are permanent staff, leaving many opportunities for the local communities. These include the supply of plant, labour, transport, consumables and sub-contracting of parts of the works. Furthermore, Raubex and TRAC are involved in a few major CSI projects in the two local municipalities. 

Apart from this project, Raubex is also involved in a vast majority of projects across South Africa with its main focus on the N4 TRAC, N4 Bakwena, N3 TC, SANRAL and the Beit Bridge border post and projects with the City of Tshwane and JDA.  

“There are two major reasons why we chose Sephaku cement for the project. The first being its performance during the stabilisation tests, which we conduct in our on-site laboratory. In this area Sephaku performed really well compared to the other cements being tested – and the second criteria obviously being one of price as all these projects are very price sensitive. With the positive laboratory testing results added to the competitive price, it was easy to decide on Sephaku as our cement partner of choice,” says Katz.
