Ingco concept store launch: Steel and Pipes Centurion leads the way

6 October 2025 Events

INGCO’s Shop-in-Shop format has already transformed hardware stores across South Africa. Now the brand takes the next bold step: the INGCO Concept Store.

Steel and Pipes Centurion shows how it’s done

Steel and Pipes Centurion unveiled the first INGCO Concept Store on 6 September. The grand opening drew an overwhelming response.

The team transformed a disused ‘dead T-off’ area into a standalone high-impact INGCO store. Massive exterior signage ensures visibility – some joked it was ‘visible from the moon’.

Many worried the Springboks vs All Blacks game at 9 am might reduce turnout. Instead, crowds gathered from 5 am. By 7:45 am when staff cut the ribbon, the queue stretched the entire property length.

A party atmosphere filled the air. Balloons, a marimba band, a DJ, and dancing created excitement. Vendors sold boerewors rolls and coffee to patient shoppers.

The power of pulling crowds

The event proved INGCO’s magnetic appeal. Staff gave the first 50 shoppers tokens for a free electric drill with any angle grinder purchase. Customers snapped up these offers within minutes.

Opening specials disappeared from shelves quickly. Many product lines sold out in the first hour.

Owner Shawn Gardiner managed crowd control at the turnstile. He let customers enter one by one to prevent overcrowding. “We even had a client drive in from Vanderbijlpark just to attend the opening,” he said. The turnout overwhelmed him.

A ‘shoe store for men’

One comment summed up the day’s atmosphere perfectly: “Finally, a shoe store for men has arrived in Centurion.”

This quip highlighted INGCO’s unique appeal. Men and women queued up eagerly. They shopped for tools with the same passion others bring to clothing.

More to come

Steel and Pipes Centurion proved that dedicated power tool concept stores work alongside existing retailers. Skebet Hardware in Brits followed suit, cutting their ribbon on 13 September.

Both initiatives work within existing client stores, not against them. The Shop-in-Shop creates high-impact branded displays. The Concept Store goes further. It transforms underused retail space into full INGCO-powered shopping destinations.

INGCO’s retail partners drive these rollouts themselves. They want to maximise the brand’s drawing power for their stores.
