Ryobi jumps on board for Dakar

Ryobi sponsor Kristen LandmanRyobi is the sole sponsor of the most exciting news in women’s sport in Africa this year, looking after Kristen Landman, South Africa’s top female enduro rider who is taking on the ultimate motorsport endurance challenge – The Dakar Rally. 

Growing up as a tomboy and always wanting to keep up with the boys, extreme sports and motorsports was always destined as a lifestyle choice for Kirsten. Having grown up in a motorcycle family, the bug bit at a very young age.

Riding and racing is Kirsten’s passion and has become a lifestyle for her. The challenge of being a female rider competing against the boys in the tough terrains that they ride in is what she thrives on. Each ride, race or training session accomplished feels like an achievement on its own, every time.

Returning to off-road racing for the 2018 season to build her confidence in high speed racing, Kirsten has jumped on-board a KTM’s 250 XCF, suited for the high speeds and cross country racing.

Kirsten now has a sights set on the Dakar Rally. Destined to make history Kirsten has earned a name for herself worldwide in the hard enduro scene. At the age of 26 years old, having competed in the hard enduro world series and has become the first female to finish races such as Redbull Romaniacs, Redbull Sea to Sky, Redbull Megawatt 111, Redbull Braveman and the Roof of Africa.

Kirsten still has so much more to achieve, with the bar being raised every year and is now set at an all-time high as she prepares to become the first African and South African woman to finish the Dakar Rally in 2020 on a motorcycle.

Kirsten recently completed the Merzouga Rally in Morocco, a five stage race spanning 1 200km, which also qualifies her to compete in the Dakar Rally. On Facebook Kirsten wrote after the finishing the Merzouga Rally, “And again a huge thank you to everyone back home. The best appreciation to Ryobi Africa for getting me here and for the unbelievable support, you believed in me and now we’re going to Dakar!!!!”
