Build it helps rhino orphanage

SONY DSCBuild it and SPAR have helped get the newly established Rhino Orphanage off to a great start with a donation of R100 000 worth of building materials at their recent Mystery Golf Tour fundraiser function held at The Wildlife & Cultural Centre at Legend Golf & Safari Resort in Limpopo Province.

Build it, a division of the SPAR Group, donated R50 000 to the project. This figure was topped up by The SPAR Group, with an additional R50 000.

With more than 260 Build it and 850 SPAR stores countrywide, both Build it and SPAR have deep roots in the communities in which they trade and this is where their focus and involvement is based. At the current rate of slaughter there will be no rhinos in Africa by 2020 – and for the companies, a South Africa without rhino is untenable.

“It’s our heritage and must be protected at all costs,” says Ray Whitmore, Managing Director from Build it, when he handed over the cheque to the Rhino Orphanage. The first dedicated, non-commercial centre to care for baby rhino orphaned by the shocking trade in poached rhino horns, work on the orphanage, to be based at The Wildlife & Cultural Centre, will break ground within the next few weeks.

Build it suppliers also made a significant contribution to the project with the following donations:

· PPC – R50 000

· Hendok – R50 000

· Lafarge Cement – R100 000
